Eff the Ineffable || Azuremyst US

Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.

About Eff the Ineffable

Eff the Ineffable is an Alliance guild on Azuremyst-US.

We are a guild that started out with people who like to raid, and nerdily study up on theorycraft, but don’t have a lot of time in-game to actually RAID. The well-educated “casual”, if you will. Most of our members have blogs or were referred through the blogging community, thus demonstrating that they like to read, study, and improve.

Our Culture

In general we are a nerdy and helpful bunch and respect each other. Nobody is allowed to be a jerk, regardless of raid prowess. We tend not to power each other’s alts through instances but rather let the alts find their own way (so those sorts of requests are pretty much nonexistent).

If you want to queue for a heroic, chances are someone will come with you. Full guild groups are the norm, since most of us are not fans of pugging.

Guild chat is usually friendly and lively. People speak in complete sentences.

Our Blogs

A lot of people in the guild blog. We freely talk about the guild, so be prepared! However, we don’t discuss interpersonal drama and rant about other people. If we have a problem with someone else, we deal with it directly rather than whining on a blog.

We’re big fans of free speech, and it’s totally fine to discuss what is going on in the guild as long as it is done in a thoughtful and respectful manner.

Transparency and Leadership

We are big on transparency. This guild started as a consensus collective without any real officers. After this burned out a couple of GMs we decided it made sense to divvy up responsibilities a little more clearly. However, there are no officer forums and no officer chat. This reinforces guild transparency and consensus decisionmaking, and stresses that our “officer” positions are really just people volunteering to do specific jobs.

The “officers” then coordinate with any volunteers needed for the jobs. For example, the main raid coordinator will ensure that each raid is covered by a volunteer raid leader, but the raid leader is the one who is... well leading the raid.

List of Officers and Jobs

Dictator 4 Lyfe: Nymphy is in charge of ALL THE THINGS (in a broad sense)

Raiding Coordinator: Orvillius is in charge of making sure raids have leaders and run smoothly

Banking Officer: Grimmtooth is in charge of selling extra guild junk on the auction house, organizing the bank, and making sure we have needed materials

QQ Box

We used to have a QQ box where we sorted complaints according to their topic. Now feel free to direct any QQing to Orvillius either on the forum, over twitter, or via e-mail.

Raiding

Raiding is the focus of the guild right now. We do are 2/8 Heroic in Dragon Soul and have a plan in place heading into MoP. We run heroics, battlegrounds, or old raids on off nights and encourage folks to pop on if they feel like doing something with their guildies.

Because we have so little time in-game, we expect our raiders to study the encounters and their class out of game. Raiders should show up fully gemmed and enchanted. It doesn’t have to be the best enchants or gems that money can buy, but enchant and gem every piece. Cauldrons and feasts are provided by the guild bank.

Raids start on time. If you’re not there, you will be replaced - and that’s not an idle threat. We replaced a dude who was 5 minutes late.

There is no minimum attendance requirement for raiding. However, if you raid very infrequently, you may not have the gear up to the level needed to progress.

Raid Times

Progression raids are Friday and Saturday at 9:30 EST/ 6:30 PST and last approximately 3 hours.

Farm night (when we have one again) will be on Tuesday at 9:30 EST/6:30 PST and lasts approximately 2 hours.

Rostering

We use the in-game calendar for sign ups. If you mark yourself tentative, you will not be rostered. The idea for “tentative” is to change it to yes or no before the rostering is done. We try to do rostering 24-48 hours in advance so people can make other plans if they are on standby. People on standby are not expected to be online at raid time. However, if you ARE online at raid time, and a spot comes up, yay it’s yours.

For Progression Content: We roster based on a rotation so everyone can be included, even those with craptastic schedules. Without going into too much math, the rotation is based on the ratio of the number of times you had to sit out versus the number of times you signed up. We have a spreadsheet for this that can be viewed by the entire guild.

In general, we try to sit out couples together instead of separately to make their scheduling easier, even if it means fudging the numbers a tiny bit.

Lewt

For Progression: We used to use Suicide Kings but after too many problems with the add on used to manage the list not syncing properly EtI moved on to a Main Spec/Off Spec roll system. Tier tokens are a separate roll from non-tier loot. We ask that members be considerate of fellow raiders (i.e. don't roll main spec need on a side-grade that is BiS and a serious upgrade for someone else).

Authenticator

Right now, the raider rank must have an authenticator. This is because the bank permissions for raiders are fairly extensive so that potions (etc) can be grabbed for raiding purposes. If you are a raider and do not have an authenticator your bank access will be somewhat limited.

Non-Raiders

Non-Raiders are welcome to join us! We offer guild repairs and access to lower level crafting mats!

As mentioned above, guildies frequently (if not USUALLY) run instances with each other. On many non-raid nights there will be full or partial guild groups going through instances to farm VP or help someone gear.

Banking and Guild Funds

Guild repairs are turned on for raiders during raid nights. Lately guild repairs are turned on for everyone because we have a cash surplus, but that is subject to change.

The guild bank provides flasks (cauldrons), potions, and fish feasts for raiders. Guild enchanters, within reason, can use guild bank materials to enchant guildies’ gear. In general, there are “take it if you need it” tabs where you can take materials if you are grinding a profession or see a blue item that you or your alt would like.

The “For Sale” tab is for awesome BOE purplez that we find while raiding (and nobody in the raid wants it). First crack at the BOE purples goes to regular raiders who were NOT at the raid. They will not have to pay cash for the purple. If the main spec raiders pass on it, it can be purchased for an alt for a fraction of the Auction House price. The banking coordinator is the one to contact about something shiny that you want in the “For Sale” tab.

As mentioned above, the Raider rank (and up) must have an authenticator, because raiders have access to raiding materials tabs. We need the alchemist raiders to be able to grab enough flasks to make cauldrons, so the permissions must allow enough stacks for that crafting, but a hacker could wipe out our entire cauldron materials supply if a raider gets hacked.

If you misappropriate guild materials, such as grabbing flasks to run pugs, Orv will hunt you down.

Joining ETI

You’re still here? Mmkay. Here’s how you join us: come hang out with us! Run a few raids, and then we'll hold a quick vote. If you've convinced your raid team that you aren't a horrible person you're in!

Just make contact with one member and start a conversation. Chances are, you heard about the guild from someone, so start with that person. It can be in-game, by e-mail, whatever. If you don’t know anyone from the guild, you can sign up for the forums and make a post... and a member will come find you. Then the member will drag in some other members for you to meet. Maybe you talk on vent. Maybe on IM, whatever. It’s pretty open-ended because everyone has different schedules or preferences.

However... it’s not just if we like you, it’s if you like us too. We encourage you to listen in on a raid in vent. Also, if you are thinking of server transferring, you can make an alt and we will invite the alt to the guild. You can spend some time in gchat and see if it’s the right atmosphere for you before you spend any money. You can even peruse the blogs of some members to see if they drive you batty.

Once invited, you get to be a “trial”. If you behave, you get promoted to member or raider, depending on whether you raid.

If you're still interested make a forum post... tweet at Orvillius or Nymphmage or pop onto Azuremyst and send someone a whisper!
